Symposium Panelist Spotlight: Shelley Whitehead

Shelley L. Whitehead is the owner and managing member of Whitehead Freelance Law, LLC, a company that provides legal services to solo practitioners and small law firms so they can accomplish their business goals and obtain a work-life balance. Prior to forming her practice, Attorney Whitehead has had various legal experiences in representing corporate clients in premises liability, insurance defense and employment matters. However, after discovering she could combine her passion for fashion and intellectual property, she became attracted to fashion law. Attorney Whitehead co-presented a seminar at Fashion Focus Chicago entitled Chicago Fashion Law 2012: Protecting your Fashion Designs and Brand, Recent Case Developments and Legislation, Business Necessities for Fashion Designers. She also recently launched The Legal BombSHELL, a life, style and law blog which discusses the latest developments in fashion law cases and news.
Attorney Whitehead is a native of south suburban Chicago, Illinois and alumnus of Iowa State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Management. She holds a Juris Doctor degree from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In addition to fashion, Attorney Whitehead enjoys reading, volunteering, learning sign language and is a beauty product junkie.

Frances P. Hadfield is an attorney with the law firm of Grunfeld, Desiderio, Lebowitz, Silverman and Klestadt LLP (GDLSK). Ms. Hadfield is a former federal law clerk for the Honorable Evan J. Wallach of the United States Court of International Trade. She is a licensed Customs broker and has taught Customs classification at the World Trade Institute at Pace University. She is also the current Chair of the Customs and International Trade Bar Association’s (CITBA) Trial and Appellate Practice Committee. Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Hadfield worked in the apparel industry. She is the author of Import and Customs Issues in Fashion, in Fashion Law: A Guide for Designers, Fashion Executives, and Attorneys 319-346 (Guillermo C. Jimenez and Barbara Kolsun eds., 2009). ISBN: 978-1-56367-778-6 and “A Question of Evidence, Ethics, and Interpretation: Possible Perils and Pitfalls of United States Court of International Trade Rules 8 and 11” 19 Tul. J. Int’l & Comp. L. 573 (Spring 2011). Ms. Hadfield is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (B.S. 1996) and The John Marshall Law School (J.D., cum laude, 2001). She is admitted to practice before the States of New York and Illinois, as well as the U.S. Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Victoria Watkins, Attorney at Law Chicago, Illinois

Victoria R. Watkins currently works for the City of Chicago in Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s Office of Legislative Counsel and Government Affairs. Victoria serves as legislative counsel for the Administration on all state initiatives. Prior to joining the City, she served as Assistant Counsel to House Speaker Madigan, advising State Representatives on legislation and procedure. In addition to her legislative law work, Victoria counsels, researches, and writes on fashion law, entertainment and sports law, copyrights and trademarks, and other related fields. She is the Chief Editor and Creator of B.A.F.F.L.E.D. (Business Advice, Fashion Facts, Law & Entertainment Domain) (Check it out!), a lifestyle blog on the topics she loves most. Victoria is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and earned her law degree from DePaul University College of Law.
